This is an inappropriate development for the area, completely out of character and is likely to make this a dangerous area for pedestrians.
A single storey building under this proposal will be replaced by a seven storey monstrosity. Apart from creating a visual eye sore, it is a case of gross over development.
An absolute minimum car parking requirement is 90 spots, for the proposed 45 apartments, including 9 three bedroom dwelling. In a complete disregard for regulations the developers are proposing to build 7 story when only 5 is required by law. Surely, this alone should lead to the dismissal of the proposal.
Council needs to commission its own independent traffic report, this one does not correspond to my personal experience of the place, where parking is at a premium and it is almost impossible to find a spot.
While developers may feel that they have an inalienable right to gouge huge profits, this must not be at the expense of surrounding community and the quality of life.
I feel strongly that the present proposal must be completely rejected and an alternative, more modest proposal made that conforms to the laws
We need a whole lot more than token gestures related to sustainability and heritage. There are good examples around - we don't need to reinvent the wheel. We just need developers to accept there is money to be made from four and five store's before greed destroys Melbourne's livability
